The Model Trains Museum

Layout Construction of the Train Diorama
The "O" gauge layout itself is constructed on 2" x 4" wooden frames, and the rail lines are laid on ¾" plywood beds. The mountains and terrain are glued styrofoam sheets covered with overlapping quick drying orthopaedic bandages that have been dipped in water and applied with a stiff bristled stipple brush. The surface is sprayed with paint and then landscaping was added for the finishing touch.

The 500 plus trees are hand made, of which, the foreground trees (Western old growth Red Cedar, Douglas Fir , and Hemlock) are the most detailed.

Design-Build Team
The "O" gauge track layout was put together by a team of talented long-term friends of Mr. Keith-King.

Lyall Webster, Mr. Keith-King's friend and colleague since 1959, is the architect who drew the base construction area layout and constructed the actual rail lines.

Torstein Kravik, the contractor, constructed the base frames, the railroad beds, and the display cabinets. He was assisted by his son Tom, Danny Pouliott, and Larry Leroux.

Warren Jones, a Vancouver resident and artist, provided much of the finishing of what is essentially a three-dimensional environmental sculpture. At various times, his assistants with the diorama included Dan Kachur, Greg Clarkson, and Max Keith-King and Wade Jones with the bridges and trees.

Thanks and appreciation go to the Design-Build Team, and also the following individuals for their contribution:

David Reuss for his skill and knowledge of O gauge trains, in particular, the interurban system, and in addition, his guidance and expertise in HO and OO systems.

John Riley for his wisdom, expertise and efforts in association with the Canadian O gauge collections, as well as related Canadian railroad artifacts, i.e., dinner service, etc.

Ron Girard who initiated the museum's toy train collection and for his assistance with its orchestration and the collation of the artifacts.
